Bird Observatory and Ringing
station
In the territory of the
estate of Titignano, near the Castle, there is a Ringing Station.
The Ringing Station carry
on a program of scientific research, aimed to study the birds’
populations during all the year and involved ornithologists member of
Centro Studi Ornitologici “Antonio Valli da Todi (http://birdinginumbria.spaces.live.com/)
that are licensed by the Italian National Institute for Wild Fauna to
ring birds on their own.
At
the ringing station birds are catch using mist-nets and then a small,
weightless ring is put on the bird’s leg. The ring has absolutely no
effect on the bird’s ability to fly, feed and breed.
It is illegal to catch
wild birds without a ringing licence.
On reservation is possible
to visit the ringing station and look to some of the birds that live in
the study area or organize bird watching tour in the estate and in the
most interesting ornithological sites of the regional Park.
